Mt Lincoln, Mt Cameron and Mt Bross - Full Moon Hike
TH: Kite Lake
Participants: Matt Pierce, Daedra Pierce, Jeff Verseman, Bill Rupp, Peter Daniels, Dave Germano, Dan Hunninghake
My friend Dave and I had been wanting to do a full moon hike for awhile and I thought August 19th-20th would be a great weekend. I sent around some emails and soon had 10 people set to go. After a few last minute cancellations we were down to 8. We all agreed to meet at Kite Lake on Friday night the 19th and get up around 2AM to leave for Mt Lincoln. I knew everyone in the group except Peter and his wife. They had not met up with us when I went to bed at around 10PM. I awoke at 1:30AM and got everyone else up and going. We were all set to go around 2:30 when Peter walked up to our group and introduced himself. He had parked a little further down the road and camped. I was glad he made it. He said his wife wasnt feeling well and had decided to skip the hike. I took the lead for the first 1/2 hour or so and we made our way up to the Democrat/Cameron saddle. Route finding was easy and Peter and I led most of the way. The group did great considering a few folks were fairly new to hiking 14ers. Everyone made a great pace and we were soon at Mt Camerons summit. The full moon was amazing. I dont think I turned on my headlamp more than 5 minutes the entire way up (and that was probably to search in my pack for stuff) We made our way over to the summit of Lincoln and prepared for sunrise. I made some hot tea and everyone relaxed. It wasnt long before the sun started coming up and were were in awe. What an amazing morning. Peter decided to head down to his wife and the remaining group decided to head over to Mt Bross. After bagging Bross I guided everyone down the scree gully on the only semi-solid trail that exists on the south side of the gully. |
