Jean Aschenbrenner Climbing Resume and Related Stuff 

1963 – This Iowa girl visited Colorado and fell in love with the rocks and peaks

1968-9 – Learned to rock climb while in Geneva, Switzerland as an exchange student for the year

1969 – Took summer trip to Colorado and did 3-day solo backpack around Snowmass

1970 – Lived in Connecticut, hiked in New England, and climbed peaks in the Presidential Range

1973-6 – As a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya, made numerous trips to Mt. Kenya and Mt. Elgon

1973 – Summitted Point Lenana (16,355’) on Mt. Kenya

1976 – Summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro  (19,340’)

1977 – Hiked in Drakensburgs in South Africa and climbed Mt. Toubcal (13,671’) - highest peak in Morocco and North Africa

1978 – Moved to Colorado, started backpacking, climbing 14ers, doing raft trips, exploring Utah canyons, cross-country skiing, and rock climbing in the Cirque of the Towers in the Wind River Range

1979-95 – Numerous long backpack and climbing trips to the San Juans and Wind Rivers

1980 – Summitted Mexican Volcanoes

1984 – Completed Highest 100 peaks in Colorado on Little Bear Peak

1988 – Completed Highest 200 peaks in Colorado

1989 – Separated shoulder in bicycle accident 2 days before leaving for a planned expedition to the Indian Himalaya

1990 – Climbed in the Soviet Pamirs (avalanche killed 43 climbers in the camp immediately above us)

1992 – Summitted Ojos del Salado (22,580’) in Chile’s Atacama Desert

1993 – Completed all 13ers in Colorado and climbed in the Alps, summitting Monte Rosa

1995 – Started teaching rock climbing in the Boulder Mountaineering School of the Colorado Mountain Club

1996 – Summitted Huascaran (22,300’) in the Peruvian Andes and hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

1998 – Climbed in the Bolivian Andes

2000 – In Washington, climbed Mt. Rainer, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Baker and hiked in the North Cascades

2001 – In Idaho, climbed Borah Peak and several peaks in the Sawtooth Range

2002 – Climbed in Utah, California, and Nevada, summitting Kings Peak, Mt. Lassen, Mt. Shasta, Half Dome (Cables Route), Boundary Peak, White Mountain Peak, Mt. Whitney, Wheeler peak, and Mt. Peale

Current – Continuing to make peakbagging trips and rock climbing trips to Joshua Tree, Red Rocks, and desert towers near Moab

Summary – Made a total of over 1500 ascents (ranked and unranked, first time and repeats) of Colorado peaks above 12,000’, climbed 28 of the traditional 54 14ers in winter, lead rock at up to 5.9, and ice climb in the winter
